About Us

Brought By Bike was created by me, Helena, while on maternity leave with my second daughter. The area we live in had recently become a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN), which meant that a traffic-choked junction by our home was now gloriously quiet and safe. We were already a car-free household but I now started to think about ways that I could help to support the scheme, including avoiding adding more traffic to the peripheral roads. While I was unable to do very much directly, caring for a 3 year old and a newborn during the national lockdown, I decided that one, tiny, difference I could make would be to seek out alternatives to the traditional van mode for any delivery or service that we required.

Having long been interested in urban planning & logistics and sustainability, I had seen images of couriers and plumbers on cargo bikes in the Netherlands, France and Denmark and thought there must be similar services available in the UK. I managed to find some but only after considerable time spent searching. Rather than wishing that somebody else had set something like Brought By Bike up, I decided that I would have to do it myself!

a source of information for those people like me who care about the safety and environment of their streets and want to make a difference

Brought By Bike aims to list every company and tradesperson across the UK who either makes their local deliveries by bike or uses a bike-based last-mile logistics company to deliver to their customers’ doors by bike or, in the case of tradespeople or providers of services, travels between jobs or appointments by bike. In the directory you will find listings for cycling plumbers, gardeners on cargo bikes, organic veg boxes delivered by bicycle and so much more. We don’t seek to speak for the cargo bike logistics industry, but instead to be a source of information for those people like me who care about the safety and environment of their streets and want to make a difference, however small. In addition to this, it’s right that companies who are thinking about the sustainability of their delivery or transport options are recognised and celebrated.
